Wellness is a lifelong process of decision making to living a more balanced and meaningful life. It's an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illnesses and prolonging life as opposed to reactively treating diseases. A healthy life style is the result of wellness across all aspects of life. Wellness is not only being free of disease, but also taking an active approach in your work and leisure activities, forming healthy relationships, and finding a purpose in life.


There are 8 dimensions of wellness. All are important. To lead a balanced life, we should actively address each of these areas on a regular basis:

To find out how you're doing in each of these dimensions, take this free wellness assessment that was created by the University of Colorado Boulder. I believe that this should be used as a tool to reflect upon which areas you perform well in and which areas could use more of your time and resources. To making effective changes in life, we must first identify areas that are holding us back. Work in these areas will contribute to leading a more balanced lifestyle.
